Update on the ELO: The Obligatory Logistics Envelope (ELO), part of the Brexit smart border, will not be mandatory from 1 September 2025 as initially planned. French Customs (DGDDI) has extended the transitional, giving operators and carriers more time to prepare. The new final implementation date is set for 20 april 2026.
Who is concerned?
All trucks and road vehicles — loaded or empty — need an ELO to cross the border.
The ELO in 3 key points:
- One envelope per vehicle, grouping all customs documents.
- Faster border crossings with a single scan.
- Secure flows, reducing risks of missing paperwork.
Timeline:
- Rollout from late April 2025.
- Compulsory from 20 april 2026.
