Starting in October 2026, companies carrying out import operations must be particularly vigilant regarding the references of their Binding Tariff Information (BTI).
In a note addressed to operators1, French Customs (DGDDI)2 announces a strengthening of automated controls in DELTA IE. The system will now verify the validity of BTI references mentioned in customs declarations.
Any anomaly detected may lead to the rejection of the declaration and temporarily block customs clearance.
Automated control of BTI references in DELTA IE
The BTI allows a company to obtain an official decision from the customs administration regarding the tariff classification of goods.
With the generalization of controls in DELTA IE, every BTI reference indicated in a declaration must:
- be valid on the date the declaration is filed;
- correspond to the data recorded by Customs;
- be associated with the correct holder and EORI number.
In case of error, DELTA IE may prevent the validation of the declaration until the information is regularized.
What checks should you perform now?
Before this change comes into effect, companies are invited to verify:
| Controlled element | Recommended action |
|---|---|
| BTI validity period | Verify that the information is still applicable |
| BTI number | Compare the reference used with that recorded in DELTA |
| Holder | Check the association with the correct EORI number |
| Goods concerned | Verify that the BTI still corresponds to the imported products |
Why act before October 2026?
A simple reference error can have significant operational consequences:
- rejected customs declaration;
- immobilized goods;
- additional delays during importation;
- disruption of the supply chain.
Anticipating these checks allows you to secure your operations and avoid interruptions during processing in DELTA IE.
